Do you know a young sailor in your area who always goes the extra mile?  It could be someone who has overcome adversity and carried on sailing or someone who can demonstrate an exceptional achievement.  Nominate them for the RYA Regional Young Sailor of the Year award 2011!  The awards are a fantastic opportunity for clubs and training centres across the region to recognise the outstanding impact young people have made to UK boating, whether it’s on the race course, or at their club, overcoming adversity or through an exceptional achievement.   Each RYA Regional Young Sailor of the Year winner is then automatically put forward for the National YJA Pantaenius Young Sailor of the Year Award, with three finalists shortlisted by the Yachting Journalists’ Association (YJA) from all of the nominees.   The RYA southern winner (or winners if it is a crew or team) and their families will be treated to a VIP day at the 2012 London Boat Show, where the national YJA Pantaenius Young Sailor of the Year winner will be announced. The RYA's Southern Region has a fleet of six Optimist Dinghies available for hire to anyone who would like to have a go at sailing. Sailing Clubs, schools and other children's outdoor, training and community organisations are can take advantage of these one-person dinghies aimed at the 7-12 year olds. The nominal hire charge is only £30 per day for all six boats which are based in the Christian Youth Enterprise Sailing Centre, Chidham, Chichester Harbour, and the hirer would be expected to collect and return. About the Region

The RYA Southern Region incorporates all RYA Affiliated Clubs and Organisations in Hampshire, South East Dorset, the Isle of Wight, and Chichester Harbour, plus a few London based and Sevices Clubs whose sailing base is in the Southern Region, approx. 160 in total. The Region is run by a volunteer committee consisting of representatives from the major sailing organisations in the Region, together with a RYA Sailability Co-ordinator, and the Regional Cruising Committee members. The Region also has its own Training Panel consisting of volunteers appointed by HQ at Hamble. The Region is represented nationally by the Regional Chairman who serves on RYA Council, and is elected by the Clubs in the Region, also by a representative on the RYA Cruising Committee, this person is in turn co-opted as a member of the Regional Committee. The full Committee normally meet three times during the year. The Regional AGM is held in late September/early October, just prior to the RYA AGM. At the AGM each Regionally Affiliated Club is entitled to send one voting representative. RYA Personal Members, and members of affiliated clubs and organisations are also welcomed at the AGM, although they are not entitled to a vote. Every affiliated club receives 28 days notice of the AGM, with a full Agenda, Chairman's Annual Report, together with a copy of the Regional Accounts.
