The Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) is calling on garden lovers to take a walk on the wild side this autumn. With its new range of wildlife products, it hopes to encourage people to invite wild, wonderful and in some cases endangered species such as hedgehogs, sparrows and bees into their back gardens, supporting the charity in the process. Available from its online shop www.rnlishop.org.uk and catalogue, all profits go directly towards helping the RNLI continue its vital work of saving lives at sea.

Highlights from the range include:

  • Hogitat – a decrease in natural habitat is causing problems for the UK’s hedgehog population. Help redress the balance with a Hogitat, the perfect hibernation home, featuring a rust-proof steel frame, snug waterproof covering and a defence tunnel to keep predators out. £27.95
  • Robin nesting box – designed to attract robins, wrens and other small garden birds, this nesting box has a unique camouflage finish to blend in naturally with its surroundings. £19.95
  • Ladybird house – a great way to attract these beneficial insects into any garden. Designed with an inner chamber filled with natural bedding material, it has upward sloping access holes and a removable roof panel. £12.95
  • Less mess fat trap – instead of pouring unwanted fat or cooking oil down the drain and risking blockages, pour it into a fat traps. Add seeds, dried fruit and a piece of string to make nourishing fat balls for hanging on your bird table. £3.95
  • Bumblebee house – the UK bee population is in decline – a serious problem because without bees many plants cannot pollinate. Help encourage them back with this custom-made house. Made from wood with a zinc roof, it has natural bamboo ‘rooms’ inside to provide the warm, secure shelter that bees need in bad weather. £14.95
  • Sparrow flats – encourage sparrows (now a protected species) into your garden with this unusual nesting box. Made from FSC wood with a zinc roof, it provides three levels of accommodation with entry holes that prevent larger birds from ‘squatting’. £27.95
  • Nature watch micro camera – watch and hear wildlife in your garden on your TV with this weather-proof micro camera with integral microphone. £75 or Sparrow Flats & Nature Watch Camera offer £99.00

The new range is available online at www.rnlishop.org.uk or call 0870 013 3999 for a catalogue or to place an order. Lines are open 8am–10pm Monday–Sunday.
