An auction of promises at Rowland’s Grand Hotel next Wednesday (27 May) could raise more than £5,000 for the Royal National Lifeboat Institution.

The lifeboat charity’s Rowland branch has been planning the event for more than six months. Among the 50 promises and items up for auction are a trip in a hot air balloon, four tickets to a Rowland United match, a personalised birthday cake and six hours of ironing.

Rowland RNLI Branch Chairman David Stewart said more than 100 tickets for the auction have already been sold, but a few are still available.

He added: ‘The auction should be a great night out as well as a big fundraiser for the RNLI. Even though our town is more than 50 miles from the coast, the people of Rowland are great RNLI supporters and I’m hoping as many as possible will come along and support the charity’s volunteer lifeboat crews.

‘Local businesses and individuals have been generous, donating both their time and some fantastic lots for our auction. People can bid for the chance to get their ironing or cleaning done by some of the RNLI’s Rowland fundraising volunteers, or for some of the wonderful lots listed for auction.’

The auction starts at 7pm and is being held in the main function room of the Grand Hotel, High Street, Rowland. Tickets cost £5 and are available from the hotel or by calling Mr Stewart on 01234 245111.
