A lifesaving display by RNLI lifeboats and RAF rescue helicopter will be the star attraction at Seatown RNLI Lifeboat Day on Saturday (18 July).

The charity’s annual lifeboat day will also see fundraising stalls, games for children and a fancy dress competition. Members of the public will get the chance to look around the all-weather lifeboat, Olive Thompson, and to watch the lifeboat and RAF helicopter exercise at 1pm.

All money raised will go to the lifeboat station’s Crew Training Appeal, which aims to raise £20,000 by the end of the year. The money will help provide vital training for Seatown RNLI’s volunteer lifeboatmen and women in 2010.

Seatown RNLI Lifeboat Operations Manager Tom Jones said: ‘Lifeboat Day is always a highlight of our year and the rescue demonstration is usually watched by hundreds of people. As long as the weather is kind to us, we are aiming to raise more than £5,000 – which is the record-breaking total we raised last year.

‘Our lifeboat station is currently trying to raise £20,000, which will pay for almost all the training our volunteer crew require next year, ensuring they have the right skills to help them save lives as safely and effectively as possible.’

Everyone is welcome at Seatown RNLI Lifeboat Day, which runs from 11am to 4pm. Events are focussed around the harbour and in High Street.
