Fowey-RNLI-launch-to-yacht-with-propeller-problems

Byline: The sloop Swiftwind was sailing well at sea but, although the engine ran smoothly when turned on, the propeller would not move so there was no means of propulsion.

She was due to enter Fowey Harbour at about 1am this morning (Saturday 1 June) but would have been unable to manoeuvre at all due to fickle wind conditions with the wind coming directly from the harbour mouth.

Brixham Coastguard decided the most sensible action was to ask for the Fowey RNLI lifeboat to be launched while Swiftwind was still at sea and tow her in safely. The volunteer crew launched last night at around 10.40pm.

The skipper said afterwards;

‘It was very decent of them to all turn out, we had nowhere to go.’

The lifeboat was back on station at 12.15am this morning.
