Byline: Eastbourne all-weather lifeboat launched yesterday afternoon (2 June) in response to a request for help from Dover Coastguard when an angling boat suffered engine failure
Page Content: Search and rescue co-ordinators at Dover Coastguard received conflicting reports that initially indicated a group of eight anglers aboard their 27 foot vessel were in trouble in Eastbourne Bay. As a result of this information, Eastbourne RNLI’s all-weather lifeboat (ALB) was launched. When on scene two miles south west of the pier the volunteer lifeboat crew found a 17ft beach-launched open fishing boat with just two people aboard. The casualty vessel was taken under tow to the beach near Eastbourne Angling Club. Due to the shallow water, the ALB could not beach the casualty so members of Eastbourne inshore lifeboat crew donned their dry suits and waded out to recover the fishing boat and its occupants.
