Byline: The volunteer crew of Eastbourne lifeboats have received an official letter of thanks from the outgoing RNLI Director of Operations, Michael Vlasto, for their service to a man overboard from the tug ‘Endurance’ last February
Page Content: The all-weather lifeboat launched in atrocious conditions at 00.38 to search for a man lost overboard from the tug. Having searched all night along with the Coastguard rescue helicopter and Newhaven lifeboat the rescue was eventually abandoned at 09.15.

In his letter of thanks Mr Vlasto said, “The crew demonstrated excellent teamwork, commitment and professionalism in their sustained attempts to locate the casualty during this long service. I understand the man’s body was recovered by the crew during a separate service involving the ILB and ALB on 21 March. Although this must have been a difficult task, it will no doubt have provided some comfort to his loved ones”.
