Stranded-Minke-whakle-sparks-rescue-effort-by-RSPCA-Coastguards-and-RNLI-lifebo

Byline: Rhyl’s RNLI volunteer crews on both the all-weather and inshore lifeboats were launched at 2.50pm on Monday 9 December 2013, to back-up local coastguard teams from Rhyl and Llanduno with RSPCA inspectors.

The lifeboats stood off the shore at Pensarn, Abergele, and some of the volunteer crews from both boats were ferried ashore to assist RSPCA inspectors and staff, together with local coastguard teams from Rhyl and Llandudno.

The crews were briefed by the RSPCA inspector before going alongside the 10m-long Minke whale. The two RNLI lifeboats and its volunteer crew shepherded the whale into deeper water.

The mammal was rather disorientated, but the crews escorted it into deep water, hoping it would find it’s way back to the deeper sea.
