A coastguard shore team and search and rescue helicopter from RNAS Culdrose also joined the search.

Sea conditions worsened, making a sea serach impossible and the Plymouth lifeboat was stood down. The coastguard team and helicopter continued searching for another hour.

Within half an hour of returning to the Plymouth lifeboat station, the volunteers were called out again to help search Plymouth Sound after reports that a kayaker was in difficulties.
