Byline: Port Talbot lifeboat was launched at 1:03pm to search for a small fishing boat which was lost in thick fog off Aberavon beach.

The fishing boat had gone out to sea on a fishing trip with two persons on board with the weather quite clear at the time. However a thick blanket of fog rolled in very quickly and the vessel was unable to see land and get their bearings. They were asked to sound the horn on the vessel to aid the lifeboat’s search.

Once the lifeboat was in the  search area, a box search was carried out and the vessel was found after approx 45 minutes. The vessels engine was operational, but due to virtually no visibility the lifeboat crew decided to take the vessel in tow and using local knowledge and sounds off the land, slowly towed it into the River Afan to its moorings. Once on its moorings the vessel was met by the local coastguard.

Due to fading light and the fog the lifeboat was recovered at the River Afan slipway and transported back to the station by road
