Margate-RNLI-lifeboat-assists-disabled-fishing-vessel

Byline: Margate’s RNLI all-weather lifeboat Leonard Kent was in action overnight assisting a disabled fishing vessel off the north Kent coast.
Page Content: The 8.5m Whitstable based fishing vessel with two people on board, contacted Thames coastguard at Walton-on-Naze in Essex around midnight last night (Monday 24 March) reporting that they had run aground on the Hook Sands off Birchington on the north Kent coast. They had lost their rudder and required assistance.

Thames coastguard passed the information to Dover coastguard and Margate’s all-weather lifeboat was tasked to assist the craft. The lifeboat arrived on scene around 1.30am and was able to pull the fishing vessel into deeper water. It was then taken in tow to Whitstable harbour where, once sufficient water depth became available, was moored safely alongside. The lifeboat returned to Margate and was ready for service once again at 5.30am.
