Two-calls-in-one-evening-for-Ramsgate

Byline: Ramsgate RNLI’s volunteer lifeboat crew were called out twice during the evening of Thursday 24 April with first call coming minutes after the crew had assembled at the boathouse for a training exercise.
Page Content: At 5.40pm the all-weather lifeboat (AWB) was launched to a 14m Dutch yacht with engine failure at the end of the Ramsgate Approach Channel. The yacht, with 2 people on board, was unable to sail due to lack of wind. The AWB took the yacht under tow and brought it safely into the harbour. The yacht was originally heading for Dover but on suffering an overheating engine and with other vessels in the area decided to request immediate assistance.

At 8.58pm the inshore lifeboat (ILB) was launched to a broken down jet ski between Dumpton Gap and Louisa Bay, Broadstairs which was reported by a member of the public who informed the local police. The police had the jet ski in sight and were able to assist the ILB crew in locating the casualty. The ILB attached a tow rope and safely took the jet ski and the person on board to Ramsgate main beach for recovery.
