Byline: Tobermory RNLI lifeboat was involved in a search operation for a missing man off the island of Ulva on the west coast of the Isle of Mull on Saturday 17 May 2014.
Page Content: Tobermory’s Severn Class lifeboat, Elizabeth Fairlie Ramsey, was launched at 7.30am following a report that a man had swum ashore to Ulva and that another man was missing from a small boat in Loch Tuath. On arriving in the area, Tobermory lifeboat took part in an intensive joint search operation with Stornoway Coastguard’s search and rescue helicopter, Coastguard shore teams from Knock, Tobermory, Craignure and the Ross of Mull, Oban lifeboat, several fishing vessels, a boat from a local fish farm and members of the public. At around 9.45am, the man was found on the northern shore of Ulva.

Tobermory lifeboat returned to station and was refuelled and made ready for service at 4.15pm.

Tobermory Coxswain Andrew McHaffie said: ‘This was a very distressing incident and the loss of this very well respected gentleman will be a devastating blow to the local community on the west coast of Mull. Our thoughts are with the families and friends of those involved at this very sad time.’
