Criccieth-lifeboat-assists-stricken-Drascombe-longboat

Byline: At 1.10pm on Wednesday the 18th of June, 2014 volunteer crew members from Criccieth’s RNLI lifeboat station were tasked to assist a Drascombe-type longboat which had been washed onto rocks near Mochras.

The assembled crew promptly launched the station’s Atlantic 85 class lifeboat, Doris Joan, and headed across Tremadog Bay to the vessel’s location.

The stricken sailing longboat, with one person on-board, had suffered engine failure as it left Mochras – before its sails were hoisted.  Unfortunately, there was enough of a breeze to have blown the boat onto nearby rocks.

On arrival, one crew member was placed aboard an accompanying motorboat and transferred onto the longboat to attach a tow rope.  Once a tow had been established, the longboat was taken away from danger and back into the safety of Mochras lagoon and placed on a mooring.
