Byline: On Friday the 20th of June, 2014 volunteer crew members from Criccieth's RNLI lifeboat station launched twice in one day to assist the same yacht - which had suffered engine failure on both occasions.
Page Content: The first request for assistance was received at 3.30pm, when the 18ft yacht, named Nancy Maud, was drifting towards Penychain point after suffering engine failure. The three occupants, all from the local area, had earlier set off from Mochras. On this occasion, the station's Atlanitc 85 class lifeboat, Doris Joan, assisted by towing the stricken vessel to Pwllheli harbour.
The second request was received at 8.20pm. On this occasion the yacht was resting at anchor near the entrance to Mochras lagoon - on the other side of Tremadog Bay, but was being washed onto nearby rocks by a strong swell. Again, the yacht was unable to reach safety due to engine failure. Crew members once again provided a tow for the stricken vessel, before mooring her close by. At one stage during the incident, two of the yacht's crew had entered the water in an attempt to reach shore. Once on scene, all three occupants were taken aboard the lifeboat before being transferred ashore to the care of the local HM Coastguard team and officers from North Wales Police.
