Margate-RNLI-lifeboat-in-action-after-fisherman-taken-ill1

Byline: Margate’s RNLI all-weather lifeboat, along with an RAF rescue helicopter have been in action today after a fisherman was taken ill aboard a charter angling boat.
Page Content: The alert was raised today (20 August 2014) shortly before 11.00am when a charter angling boat contacted Thames coastguard reporting that one of the fishing party on board had been taken ill and also sustained a head injury. The boat, from Essex, had five persons on board and at the time was at anchor around six miles north of Margate.

Margate’s RNLI all-weather lifeboat Leonard Kent was tasked to assist along with an RAF Sea King helicopter from Wattisham airfield.

The lifeboat arrived on scene and two crewmembers were put aboard the boat (one also a local paramedic) to assess the casualty. Once the helicopter arrived an additional paramedic was put on board. After initial assessment it was established the casualty required immediate evacuation and was winched into the helicopter. The casualty was taken to the William Harvey Hospital in Ashford: the RNLI paramedic crewmember remained with the helicopter for the journey.

No further details about the casualty’s condition are known at this time.
