Page Content: The heart-warming new children’s Christmas book, called The Big Christmas Rescue, can be personalised to put young readers at the centre of a magical festive story. The buyer can select the name, gender and skin tone of the child in the story, making it a truly unique gift for their own special little person.

The film of Chris Jarvis’ reading will be broadcast on the charity’s YouTube channel – YouTube.com/RNLI – at 7pm on Sunday 30 November as a special bedtime story.

Chris Jarvis, who co-presents the hit CBeebies programme Show Me Show Me, visited Tower lifeboat station earlier this month to do the reading. He said: ‘The Big Christmas Rescue is a beautiful book and a great read – it’s the perfect gift for children this Christmas. I love the way the book can be personalised, putting readers at the heart of the story.’

Over 12,000 copies of the book have now been sold, with all profits supporting the RNLI’s lifesaving work.

The Big Christmas Rescue is set on a wet and windy Christmas Eve night when most children are tucked up in bed. But when Santa crashes his sleigh in the sea, volunteer RNLI lifeboat crew members go to the rescue.

Rory Stamp, 37, is editor of the RNLI’s Lifeboat magazine and he wrote this festive story largely in his own time. Based at RNLI HQ in Poole, Dorset, he has written many stories of heroism and drama over the 10 years he’s worked for the lifesaving charity.

Rory said: ‘I wrote the story in the build up to Christmas 2013 and was able to try it out on the most honest and beautiful critics I could possibly have found, my daughters Lucie and Hattie.

‘I hope everyone enjoys the video of Chris Jarvis reading the book – he did a great job bringing the story to life. I’d encourage grown-ups and children alike to settle down on Sunday evening to enjoy this special Christmas story.’

Rory will be doing a live Q&A at 7.15pm on Sunday evening, after the video has been broadcast on the charity’s YouTube channel. Follow @RNLI on Twitter for updates and to find out how to ask Rory a question.

The book is priced at £9.95 and is available to order online at RNLISHOP.org/BigRescue. The last order date for The Big Christmas Rescue to guarantee delivery before Christmas is Monday 15 December 2014.
