Disabled-motor-cruiser-towed-to-safety-by-Margate-RNLI-lifeboat

Byline: Margate’s RNLI all-weather lifeboat has provided assistance to a motor cruiser after it encountered machinery problems off the north Kent coast.
Page Content: The cruiser, with two persons on board was on passage from London to Ramsgate yesterday, (Sunday 17 May) when late in the evening the crew encountered problems with the vessel’s machinery. The craft was around two miles offshore near Reculver Towers at the time and they contacted Thames Coastguard in Essex asking for assistance.

Control of the incident was handed over to Dover Coastguard who alerted the volunteer crew of Margate’s RNLI all-weather lifeboat. The RNLI lifeboat from Whitstable was also tasked to stand-by the vessel until the Margate lifeboat arrived.

By the time the lifeboats arrived one of the vessel’s engines had failed and there were problems with the second engine and after an initial assessment it was considered the best solution was to take the vessel under tow. Whitstable lifeboat was released and after an uneventful tow the motor cruiser was berthed safely alongside in Ramsgate Harbour. The two crew were unharmed following the incident.
