Byline: At 4.20pm on May 26th, 2015, volunteer crew members from Criccieth's RNLI lifeboat station were tasked by HM Coastguard to launch and assist a powerboat suffering from engine failure in the Porthmadog estuary.
Page Content: The 18ft speedboat, which had two persons on-board, was returning to Pwllheli from Porthmadog when it suffered complete engine failure. Initially, an accompanying vessel had begun to tow the stricken speedboat out of the estuary, but decided to abandon the tow on safety grounds. The station's Atlantic 85 lifeboat, Doris Joan, was subsequently launched to tow the vessel back to Pwllheli. The powerboat's occupants were bought aboard the lifeboat whilst the tow was underway.
The launch provided one of the station's most recently qualified Helmsmen, David Johnson, with an opportunity to command the lifeboat and her crew during a service launch.
