RNLI-Amble-launch-both-lifeboats-to-rescue-stricken-yacht1

Byline: On Saturday 30th May at 4.45 pm, RNLI volunteers from Amble lifeboat station launched both the all-weather lifeboat The Four Boys and the inshore-lifeboat Mildred Holcroft to assist a yacht that reported engine problems and had become stuck in low water.

The launch was at the request of HM coastguard to rescue a stricken yacht called Imagine.  Both lifeboats arrived at scene on the north side of the River Aln estuary near Alnmouth 3 miles north of Amble. The volunteers quickly assessed the situation and found one person to be on board the Imagine.  Due to the low water state it was not possible for the volunteers to recover the stricken vessel at that moment, therefore it was decided to secure the Imagine and wait for high water later in the day to recover the yacht. Both lifeboats launched again just after midnight at high water to successfully recover the Imagine and bring her back undertow to the safety of Amble harbour for repairs.
