Two-men-in-inflatable-dinghy-off-Rhyl-rescued-by-Rhyl-RNLI-volunteers

Byline: A memeber of the public on Rhyl promenade noticed the two men, apparently in difficulty about a quarter of a mile off the shoreline by Rhyl harbour. Local coastguard volunteers were also mobilised.

The crew launched the inshore lifeboat at 6.47pm, within five minutes of their pagers sounding, as some were already at the boathouse for the crew’s monthly meeting.

Five minutes after launching, they came up on a small inflatable boat, about two metres long, but there was only one person holding on to the boat. The crew then noticed another person swimming for shore about 150 metres away, but making no progress. The man and the dinghy were hauled on board the lifeboat, and then the other man was picked up seconds later. Both had been in the water for about half an hour after coming out of the dinghy. The two men were taken ashore and handed over to the coastguards and ambulance crew for a check-up and for some sea safety advice.  The inshore lifeboat returned to station at about 7.15pm.
