The skipper of the 9.2 metre yacht, which was close to Longis Bay on the island’s south coast, was unable to land his seasick female crew member given the rough weather conditions.

On route to the yacht, the volunteer RNLI crew learned that the sailing boat had engine trouble, that the sails were compromised and that a second female sailor was suffering from an ankle injury.

The RNLI was on scene in thirteen minutes, the seasick sailor was transferred to the lifeboat and two RNLI crew members transferred to the stricken yacht. A towline was established at 7.15pm and both vessels were secure in Braye Harbour, which is circa  3 miles from Longis Bay, by 8.10pm.
