Byline: Sheerness all weather lifeboat called to assist in multi agency operation to remove a sick seaman from a historic vessel in the Medway estuary.

The volunteer crew of the Sheerness all-weather lifeboat (ALB) ‘George and Ivy Swanson ‘ were called at 11.10am on 17 August to reports of a person collapsed on the historic Motor Tug ‘Kent’ which was inward bound in the Medway Approach Channel off Sheerness.

The lifeboat was on the scene at 1129am and was joined by the Kent Police patrol Rib and Coastguard Rescue Helicopter 163 who immediately winched a paramedic onto the vessel. The Sheerness ALB remained at the scene whilst the casualty was treated by the paramedic and then winched aboard the helicopter and transferred to the William Harvey Hospital, Ashford.

The Sheerness lifeboat returned to station at 12.22pm
