The 26ft yacht with one person on board contacted coastguards yesterday afternoon (Tuesday 8 September) reporting that the vessel’s rudder had been damaged and they required assistance.

The yacht was around 15 miles north west of Margate at the time and Margate’s RNLI all-weather lifeboat was tasked to provide assistance. Once on scene a member of the lifeboat crew was put on board the yacht to assess the situation and free the rudder. The craft was then taken under tow by the lifeboat and towed to Ramsgate harbour.

The sole occupant of the yacht was unharmed after his adventure and once the yacht was secured in Ramsgate the lifeboat returned to station eight hours after being called out.
