Capsized-catamaran-sparks-major-search-off-north-Kent-coast

Byline: A major sea and air search involving two RNLI lifeboats was launched yesterday (Saturday 26 September) after a capsized catamaran was sighted off the north Kent coast.
Page Content: The alarm was raised shortly before 4pm when a merchant ship sighted the catamaran around 25 miles north east of North Foreland, there were no signs of life on the craft which still had a sail rigged. The ship notified coastguards at Dover of the sighting and commenced a search of the immediate area.

RNLI all-weather lifeboats from Margate and Ramsgate were tasked, along with the coastguard helicopter from Lydd Airport and shore-based coastguard rescue teams. Margate lifeboat was able to right the craft and some personal belongings recovered and an extensive search of the area was carried out. After around six hours the search was called off and the recovered catamaran landed at Ramsgate by the Margate lifeboat.

Coastguards and Kent police are endeavouring to gather more information about the origins of the catamaran, a small Hobie Cat type of craft and anyone with information is asked to contact Dover coastguard on 01304 210008
